It happened that I had an emergency need for one of these bottles about two days after they arrived. I was out with the baby and discovered I did not have a bottle in her diaper bag. She was not impressed. It happened that I didn't leave the box of these in my car diaper bag where I would find them when I needed them. That was the first lesson learned: these are most useful when they are within emergency reach. The second time I needed one of these while we were eating in a restaurant, I actually had one in the diaper bag and so was able to pull one out and put warm milk in it. The bottle worked perfectly well. It even took a tumble and didn't break.
I admit selecting these mostly out of curiosity. Disposable sterile bottles? Why? We have always used Playtex with the sterile and disposable liners which do both things for a great deal less expense as a package (100-150) of replacement liners might run about $6 which makes their cost about 4 to 6 cents each.
The other curiosity is the sterile part: "No human hands touch the sterile bottles and nipples - the manufacturing and packaging process is automated." Who even does that anymore? It's nice to have a high temp rinse in the dishwasher, but is it really necessary to have sterile bottles for babies? (Perhaps babies with health problems?) And anyway, while I'm sure that when they are packed they remain sterile and untouched, the minute you open the sealed package of 5 nipples, the rest are no longer sterile.
The product description for these makes a huge pitch to use these in the middle of the night when you don't have any clean bottles and don't want to stay up after every one else has gone to sleep while you slave in the kitchen sterilizing bottles. The description goes even further by talking about the mom who has to be at work and the baby is awake for a 3AM feeding and the mom realizes that there isn't a clean bottle in the cupboard - really? Despite the lack of planning, it seems like there are better ways of dealing with this problem -- for instance, wake up the daddy and tell him to deal with it. It's a funny little advertising pitch and I'm curious for whom it is written. I imagine they have done their research and this is being pitched to a particular audience.
All in all, these are useful little bottles. It was funny that they snapped together instead of twisting the top. That is one of the qualities that make these a definite one-use bottle. In this day and age, it seems like we put a high value on items which can be reused. Even cheap water bottles can be reused and recycled.
Overall, yes these bottles are good for emergencies, but otherwise they seem kind of wasteful especially since it is questionable that they are even recyclable.Get more detail about Steribottle Ready to Use Disposable Baby Bottles, 10 Count.
