My baby's not here yet, so I can't comment on how well a baby likes this, but this gym is not nearly as nice as the gym we had with our last child (Tiny Love Gymini Deluxe). I was tempted to spend the extra money on Tiny Love again, but decided to give Fisher Price a try. My main complaints with this gym are the fact that it does not fold up for storage (without taking it apart that is and doesn't fit well in the plastic bag it comes in even when partially taken apart) and the fact that the mat is very thin. This mat was a no brainer for me after getting the Fisher-Price Rainforest Open-Top Cradle Swing and seeing how wonderful the colors and brightness of the product are. No, it is not meant for travelling and the mat is perfectly thick enough, even on my hardwood floors.

The only issues I had with it was the amount of time spent trying to figure out how to get the butterflies to move (they don't) and that there are no extra rings to add length (a little short for a 3 month old to view AND grab at the same time) or to attach more of your own toys. But those are insignificant and not problems compared to how many hours she has played with it and believe it or not, her activity on the playmat has tired her out so that she finally slept through the night! That in it and of itself makes this worth so much more than I paid for it, as far as I am concerned.

No matter which one you end up choosing, be sure to get a playmat. It was incredible how quickly she has developed since we bought ours a week ago. She "talks" so much more now, coos, smiles, laughs and just makes crazy noises and loves kicking the elephant rattle and looking at herself in the mirror. This is a really good product over all. My daughter enjoys this. She has been using it since she was just 2 months. I liked the fact that I had extra places to put more toys. I did have to get some linkadoos to attach them too when shee was really little so she was able to reach them. She enjoys the lights and the butterflys, however the butterflys do not move. They are on a swivel though so you can manually move them. I do like the fact that it plays music for 20min, that is really nice. She hasn't been able to activate the play mode by herself, but I even have to shake it pretty hard to get it to go off sometimes.

The only thing that I could say about this is that if your baby is starting to roll, they roll into the sides of the arches. My daughter hasn't had a problem and it hasn't hindered her rolling, I just wish it was a little bit bigger. I bought this while I was pregnant and started using it for my daughter very early on; I think she might've been only 2 weeks old. I read some of the other reviews and I think those kids might've been too old for this toy, when they are 3+ months old they are much more aware and more active and would want to do more than laying flat on their stomach or back for any extended period of time. This was my daughter's very first toy and she absolutely loved it from the very beginning up `til she was 3.5 month old! She would lay on it entertained for 20-30mins at a time which was enough time for me to heat up some food for myself to eat. She loved the lights and would smile & kick excitedly non-stop the whole time she's lying on the mat. I am amazed at the strength of her stomach muscles. In the beginning she enjoyed the lights more (probably because her eye sight weren't that great yet) then gradually she began appreciating the toys and especially the plastic mirror. She loves looking at herself and her own facial expressions. What I like about this: The mat is removable and washable. I totally thought the butterfly would move like a mobile too but apparently they don't...I eventually just took them off cause when I laid down on the mat and looked up at the lights the butterflies actually obstructs the view of the lights. I like that the music stops and then starts again when the baby kicks or make slight movement to the bars, based on the frequency of the music coming on I know that my baby is still active on the mat even when I'm not constantly looking at it. Oh, we also use it as a place for changing her diaper, the lights/toys keeps her entertained while we change her, and the mat serves as a good barrier between her bottom and our carpet (she's surprised us a couple of times and we've had to laundry the mat). My husband thinks that there is a sensor that detects baby's movements and that's what activates the music, but it doesn't say anywhere on the packaging or instructions what exactly causes the music to be triggered. I love this baby gym, and so does my daughter (now 6 months). I inherited it from my in-laws when she was just a month old. At first she would just lie there and look and the pretty lights and dancing butterflies (our fan made them move) but over time she began kicking the tucan bell and crinkle leaf, then hitting the elephant rattle and parrot spinning thing, now she chews on monkey, plays with the leaves in giraffe's mouth and looks at herself in the mirror.

What I love about this gym is the variety of toys:

My son got so much use out of this Rainforest Gym. We got it for him when he was 3 months old. He took to it IMMEDIATELY and used it almost every day for months. He absolutely loved this gym!

At first, he liked to lay on his back and watch the lights and try to bat at the toys. As he got bigger, he really liked to whack all the hanging toys, and soon he was big enought to grab the butterflies hanging from the "ceiling".

My son wasn't really into tummy time, but the mirror on the giraffe really helped. Once he got more mobile and started rolling, he really enjoyed the crinkle toys and the tiger tail. He even liked pulling on the empty rings on the mat.

This gym was a lifesaver. There were so many times when this was the ONLY thing that would make him happy. He wanted to be in his gym listening to his music and batting his toys. In fact, the majority of our home movies of him from 4mos-6mos old are him in his gym. (smile)

He still plays with the hanging monkey and the toucan.

Bought this for my 3 month old because, quite frankly, it just looked too cute to pass up and she needed more toys. :) She loves it! She stays under it talking and checking everything out and it's so much fun for me to lay next to it with her and watch her discover everything. Even her older siblings (5 & 4) love to rearrange all the toys and keep it interesting for her. I also love that it can be a tummy time mat. There are a few cute little 'touch' features on the mat, but it also includes a few toy loops across the edge. I use plastic links to connect from one loop to the next, then attach toys to the links, so she has a little chain of toys that can't get too far out of her grasp. The colors are great and the animals are adorable. The only thing that kept it from being a 5-star for me was that you need a teeny screwdriver (eyeglass size, probably) to open the battery compartment. We've had it for a week now and I still haven't found my little screwdriver to check out the electronic features. My daughter started using this gym when she was just over 2 months old. She would only play for about 5-10 minutes at a time she would mostly look at everything and hit things by accident. I always placed her feet on the crackly leaf. I added a few different toys like jacques the peacock and celest - sun/moon toy with a teething star that hung almost to the bottom, and her zebra. At 3 months she got a lot more use out of it like 20 minutes or more a day she could grab onto the teething star and the zebra and spin the parrot. she started shifting herself around to get to different toys. By 4 months she was would stay and play for an hour or more... and she started rolling over - i think it had to do with all the kicking and arm swinging from playing in the gym it just really helped develop her muscles.
