Discount Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies & Lights Deluxe Gym

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1I74908DV3VPC I have an older version of fisher price mat, but it has almost the same features as the rainforest.

Im in favor of parents having a gym or playmat for their babies. With those hanging toys, the baby can start by staring at them and then grasping/pulling when they grow up.

It sets a boundary between our pet and the baby. My infant's too happy to play around her mat and our dog knows the rules not to join her. I have yet to observe how it goes when she starts crawling.

Have a gym for your baby. As for folding mechanism, it your preference. In our case, our gym remains statically in place around the house. I dont desire to lug the gym and toys. Personally we use the bumbo and hand her toys to distract her.

Gym with four section of hanging toys is nice, esp. when my baby starts rolling. She rolls on her left and right and sees a different toy everytime. She has started circling around, though i dont think its crawling. Its good for her to seea variety of visual stimulation as she circles.

Id advise not to put too much distracting toys beyond the mat, so the baby may observe the color contrast of her playmat and plain surroundings.Much like a colorful oasis.

My husband bought this for our daughter as her first Christmas present. I thought it would be months before she would use it but she seemed to enjoy it right away. Initially she stared at the lights until she fell asleep. Now she kicks and bats at all the toys. She coos and "talks" to the lights and butterflies above. She loves the music and even gets a little fussy in the gaps between melodies. This is the ONLY toy with music that she likes, the rest make her cry. With this we can usually entertain her long enough to eat a peaceful dinner.
The mat was easy to set up, folds in half nicely to move around, doesn't go through batteries too fast, cleans up easily. I just put the bottom part in the washer and air dry. It only takes an hour or two to dry.
My only negative is that it is a little hard for me to interact with her because there is so much stuff above her. I find myself laying down beside her instead of kneeling over her. It makes tummy time a little harder too, just because it is a little awkward to put her in and roll her over.
Otherwise this is an awesome buy! My daughter loves it and I will be sad when she is too big to use it. I look forward to buying the Rainforest Jumperoo and hope she likes it as much as the gym.Get more detail about Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies & Lights Deluxe Gym.

I bought this for my grandson, and he absolutely loves it! My daughter thought since he was only 3 months old he would be too young for it, but she said when she put him on the mat and started the music and lights, he started kicking his feet around, and cooing loudly as he started watching the lights and his little head kept moving around looking at everything on this.Get more detail about Fisher-Price Rainforest Melodies & Lights Deluxe Gym.

This playmat has kept our daughter's interest from when she was only 1 month old. She is 9 months now and she still climbs on top now once in a while (with supervision since I don't think it was specifically designed for that) so it has gotten tons of use. The are also quite a few toys that come with it that keep her interested. We bought this thinking that it was a great safe answer to co-sleeping. Our son hated it. He would scoot down and end up hanging out of the mesh side on the bottom. He ended up just sleeping on the bed between our pillows most of the time. One great thing about the product is the night light, I used it constantly. This product might work well if you have a baby that isn't very active; we have no complaints on the quality of construction. We bought it for a friend who had a very relaxed little girl and she liked it pretty well, although more for naps downstairs on the couch. Overall we would not purchase it again.Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

This sleeper may work out well for a newborn - possibly until your baby is 3-4 weeks old. I bought this sleeper when my son was 6 weeks old and he was already almost too big for it (and he is of average size). Also, the sides are very hard so if your baby sleeps with his arms up by his head like mine does, he will likely hit his hands on the hard sides when he stirs at night and wake up crying. Also the mattress seems uncomfortable and the plastic coating on it makes quite a bit of noise when your baby moves. It is a good concept, so perhaps would have been useful in the first few weeks when our baby was smaller and did not really stir in his sleep. The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary Best Quality

This item looks like a great solution as a co-sleeper but it is not. Problem #1: It's 17inches wide & only fits on a Eastern King size bed if there is a normal size parent on either side of this sleeper. Problem #2: Sheet is not standard & contains long strip of velcro that attaches to everything else in your laundry & has to be discarded since becomes tangled mess. Problem #3: It's interior is only 24 inches long, so baby quickly outgrows it. Problem #4: Exterior wall is very hard so parent's head can hit not to mention baby's head as well. What to buy instead: a changing pad that is cradle shaped to fit between the parents for about $25. It takes standard sheets (without velcro) & is soft, allowing parents to curl up with their baby while in bed & allows baby to still have her/his own space & be secure.Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

For breastfeeding moms, I highly recommend this product, especially for those first couple weeks of rest and recovery. Unlike the other reviewers, we like this a lot. Our baby sleeps swaddled, so he doesn't move around much. Yes, the Velcro on the crib sheet is annoying for washing, but if I ever remembered, I could wash it in a lingerie bag or something. I also wish it was longer, because at 6 weeks of age my 12-pound boy will outgrow it soon. And yes, you'd better have a king bed if you sleep two adults.Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

This item has worked out great for us. My baby is a preemie and it appears that it will be a while before he outgrows it. I like it because I can carry it (even when he's asleep inside it) to the room I'm in and have him close by. I put a bassinet sheet on it and it works great. I love the light. I know if we travel anywhere we'll be taking this along. I highly recommend this item. Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

We bought this when our baby was 1 1/2 weeks old when we realized she was not going to be going in her crib anytime soon. We only have a Queen bed, so it is a little crowded with her between us, but we still sleep alot sounder than we would if she was not in anything - it is better than taking any chances of rolling on her or her rolling over and suffocating. Baby is 3 months old now and she still uses this, but has almost grown out of it. We also use a receiving blanket on it as a sheet and can easily change it out. The light is perfect for nighttime feedings when you only want a bit of light. I don't know what we would do with out it. She also naps in it during the day and can be close by, on the couch. We have started carrying her in it and placing the whole thing in her crib after she falls asleep in hopes it will make the transition easier - working so far. I HIGHLY recommend this product!Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

Well, before my baby was born, I never understood why anyone would need something like this. But, as everyone told me, you never really know until it happens to you!

This is such a great product for helping EVERYONE in the family get a great night's sleep. There is a lot of research showing how babies have more oxygen in their blood when they sleep in close proximity to their mother. From personal experience, I can tell you that mothers sleep better, too, when they can hear and touch their babies. No getting up in the middle of the night, either. You can stay in your warm bed.

We used ours until our daughter was 4 months old, then we switched to the Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper. If you don't want to buy both, I'd recommend the Co-Sleeper. It also converts to a playpen.Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

It is so convient because you can move your baby from room to room without waking her up. It also folds up for travel and has a great purple night light built into it. Baby had no trouble sleeping in this sleeper and I got a lot more sleep knowing I wasn't going to roll over her.
It is well ventalated and just the right combination of soft and firm so that it is comfortable, yet I wasn't worried that she could suffocate herself.
She is now 4 1/2 months old and is basically too long for it now. We are using it to transition her to crib, which so far is working well.
Despite the 'short' time it was able to be used, it was well worth it knowing she was safely sleeping with us during those critical first months.
I would recommend this to everyone I know.Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

We got this from my husband's work buddies, and when I first saw it... I was a little upset. I don't believe in co-sleeping, but we found another use for it right away. We had an unbelievable cradle for our son to sleep in, but it needed a custom mattress (which we didn't have when we brought him home from the hospital). The crib was too big for him, so we set up the Close and Secure Sleeper inside of it- and he's been sleeping in it ever since!

Not only that, but as we had several day trips to our relatives during the holidays, this was unbelievably convenient to bring along. We could set it up on a bed, couch, or wherever and know that he would sleep like a log- and we didn't have to take our Pack n' Play everywhere.Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

BEWARE to parents of larger and/or longer babies!!

My daughter weighed 11+ pounds and was 23.5 inches long when she was born, so while this is a GREAT sleep positioner or portable bassinet (it's soft, secure, portable, etc.), the actual interior length is ONLY 24 inches.

There is also a NON-removeable wedge at the end of the sleeping surface that impedes foot room, if there was some way to remove it I would have done so, if only to get more use out of it and to prevent her from throwing her legs over the sides (which she does in her bassinet as well).

As a result, my 8 week old daughter outgrew this long ago which was a major disappointment since I was hoping to use it for the transition to her crib. This wasn't exactly an inexpensive item either, so unless your baby is MUCH smaller than mine, I would suggest finding a sleep positioner that has an open end so that you can get more use out of it, for a longer period of time.Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

We LOVED this item. We were concerned about rolling over on our daughter while we had her sleeping in our bed, so this item avoided that problem. We could check on her during the night and feed her without getting out of bed. We used it for the first nearly 4 months, until she actually got so big that we cut the end off (obviously, not recommended) so she could stretch her legs for the last few weeks (she was unusually tall at 4 months, at 27"). I can see using this only with a king-sized bed. One would be too cramped in a queen-sized bed. Note that each parent will have to use separate top blankets and sheets on either side of the sleeper. The only downsides were (1) the nightlight, which I found useless because the light points up and so did not illuminate her face. However, the light is removable, so I suppose one could use it by taking it out. And (2), the manufacturer did not make extra fitted sheets last time I checked. The sheet has velcro which keeps the little mattress in place (although it does not move much), and loose sheets are not recommended for reasons of safety. Therefore, if the sheet gets soiled in the middle of the night, then good luck. The mattress did flatten a little where her head was by the end of 4 months. I have seen comments that the mattress is not soft, but it's really softer than our crib mattress. The entire unit is machine washable (once certain parts are removed, which is easy), and we dried the whole thing in the dryer. We would have brought the sleeper with us on a trip we took after she turned 4 months if she hadn't grown out of it so early. The item was perfect until we transitioned her to her crib at 4 months.Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

I bought this bed so that our baby could co-sleep with us. The top of the bed is very well constructed - it has a firm, secure edge around baby. The bottom half of the bed is simply some flimsy mesh and a small footrest. Simply put, this bed does not keep baby inside!! Even a newborn! Every time I would come to check on my baby, she would have slid halfway down, and her legs were hanging out the side. I do not recommend this product for use in an adult bed.

That being said, I do use it with a sleep positioner in her cradle (where she is sleeping all the time now, at 5 months). She is very close to growing out of it, so we will then transition her to a full-size crib.

I'm a disabled mom of two, and we got this for our younger daughter. This bed was a wonderful way to have my baby safe, yet within easy reach in the middle of the night. My baby was a preemie, so she fit in the bed until she was about 5-6 months old.
If you have a larger/longer baby, you may not get as much use out of the sleeper. You should also be aware that it's fairly wide - so it's probably most comfortable to use in a king-sized bed.
We loved how portable it was. It made for a very easy place for her to take naps if we weren't at home. And my hubby could move it from one room to another without waking her up. It's also great to use later to trasition a baby into their crib.
Some people complained about not being able to have an extra fitted mattress sheet - I just wrapped & tucked a receiving blanket around the mattress for an extra sheet and it worked fine. My daughter spit up a lot, and unless it completely soaked through to the mattress cover, we would just tear off the dirty receiving blanket and replace with a clean one. We loved the idea of this item...we didn't use it in our bed but in the crib instead of a bassinette, when we were away from home, or on the sofa. Our son was 22" at birth so he outgrew this (unfortunately!) by the time he was a month old. It is really only suitable for small babies. Also, the "mattress" is split in two due to the folding capacity (not sure how else to do this though) which makes it seem somewhat less comfortable. This is a great sleeper, BUT unfortunately it is too small and our 2.5 month old son has almost overgrown it. He loves to sleep in it and feels everywhere at home if he can sleep in his little bed. The features that make it good: there is a flap on the head end that tucks behind AND under your mattress to keep it in place. The top portion is molded plastic, with a decent height, which is helpful if you're a toss/turner - you won't roll over onto it. The lower half is mesh, which one assumes is to allow air circulation, but I think it's mostly that way to allow it to fold, and be portable. There is a foam wedge at the foot end to prevent baby from "scootching" out of it. HOWEVER, this makes the sleeper short enough to only last maybe 3 months (more or less, depending on the length of the baby). I've read that other buyers had a "split mattress," but mine was not split, but was one piece. After being folded, it was obviously bent in the middle, but I solved that by just flipping the mattress over for that use. I suppose that the split mattress was designed after complaints of the mattress being bent, so not a great change in my opinion. I also liked the nightlight - just bright enough to let us see the baby, without waking her up fully.

It is sized so that it would best fit in a king size bed (if you have 2 parents in bed), but we managed with a queen.

After reading other reviews, and thinking about my own use of this sleeper, I've come to a conclusion: The length may be too short to use it for long, however, once baby outgrows it lengthwise, it's probably time to get him out of your bed, as he is too mobile to be in a sleeper of this design. So perhaps good planning on The First Years part !Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

This sleeper is awsome. My daughter is 4 weeks old and sleeps 7.5 hour stretches in it. I can pick her up and breast feed her and put her right back down, I think all the lack of moving around helps her get right back to sleep. She is right there with me al night and sleeps sooo soundly. Maybe it is the "4th trimester" feeling that helps her to be so calm. Whats great is that she sleeps the same way in it for day time naps without me there in bed with her. A must have! Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

like many new parents, I had lots of plans including my newborn sleeping by himself in a charming bassinet and later a crib... WELL... upon his arrival, my son showed us that he slept better between my husband and I for the first 6 weeks, plus he helped my husband and I sleep better not having to get up at every new and strange sound he made (for a new parent all the sounds are scary). we just lifted our heads and knew he was fine, and went back to sleep. Yes, it was a bit tight in a queen size bed, but most importantly, he was safe and we did not have to get up. We used in bed until 6 weeks old, and then used it to transition him to his crib for the next 2 weeks. overall, well worth it, plus easy to transport if need to spend the night at someone elses house during the first 2-3 months.Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

My husband and I just had a wonderful baby girl (Apr. 9, 2007) and I simply could NOT live without this item. My daughter loves sleeping in it.

It is light; therefore, it can be easily moved from one room to another, as needed. You could easily travel with it.... from hotels to the "Grandparents house." It can be folded compactly and easily stored; and, there is also a handle for carrying. Our little one was born less than 2 weeks ago and the co-sleeper has been a life saver. Prior to his birth we assumed that he would sleep in the bassinet for a while and we would use the co-sleeper occassionally to be closer to him. After his birth we found that we wanted him closer to us at night so we used the co-sleeper right off the bat. It worked out great, he sleeps like a log in it and we feel more secure that he is safe(first time parents!). It's night having him so close while you sleep as you can hear his breathing pattern and as soon as he starts to wake. He seems more comfortable in it than in the bassinet, possibly because he could feel us closer to him while he rests. We usually swaddle him at night and use a burp cloth folded up and wedged on both sides so he feels more cozy and we are assured he wont roll to his side especially when we get in and out of bed.

Great purchase, will use with our next child for sure!Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

This wasn't around when I was a new Mom but boy was it a big help when my Grandson was little! In those first weeks when his Mom and Dad were exhausted from getting up and down all night this gave them such peace of mind to bring him to bed with them. It was so nice to just be able to reach over and jiggle him back to sleep instead of getting up AGAIN! And it helped Mom get a nap when he did during the day. It was so easy to take along for visits and for moving him around to wherever we wanted to have him close by. A friend had a c-section and it worked so well for her during the day to have the baby right there in bed so she didn't have to be lifting so often. I recently purchased another one for a shower gift.

I may be a protective Grandma but, in my opinion, it's one of those 'must have' safety items if you want to put your baby in bed with you.Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

This sleeper did its job very well. Having our daughter in the bed with us made it much easier for me to nurse during the night (especially while recovering from a C-section!), and this sleeper gave her the safe place she needed. We were not worried about rolling over on her, and the little light it has came in handy during the night. I was able to fold up this little bed and put it in my suitcase for travel.

If I were making another one, I would either make it longer or have the bottom part detachable so it could last longer, though I suppose at some point she had to go in her crib...Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

It's way too short! My son outgrew it by the time he was 3 weeks old, and he's average length. Also, he rolled to one side in it. Big waste of money!Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.

I co-slept with my first two daughters without a co-sleeper. I had looked and these and were interested in one, but could not justify $50. With my 3rd daughter I came across one for $10. Since my toddlers were constantly on my bed, I thought it might be a good idea.

It is constructed well.
It is short, my newborn fills it, but since she often curls her feet,it works
I use it for naps and I don't have to lay with her to get her to fall asleep.
Since the bottom is firm, I can scoot it or move a sleeping baby to the crib without waking her.
It is not as convenient as waking and nursing a co-sleeping baby as you have to LIFT her over the edge 4" and "lift" her back into it instead of just rolling over and scooting the baby. I have to sit up to lift her properly since I have to support her head.
It is nice if you want your own space to sleep on your stomach, etc.
It is nice if my spouse has had a drink or two and will be sleeping extra soundly, I have no worries. (before I would sleep with the baby by the edge of the bed)
You can use it as a bassinet putting it on the couch, etc.

If you can get it at a reasonable price, I would recommend it. It has more than $10 in material, so I got a steal I think the store had them mis-marked. At $25 it may be a good idea. Get more detail about The First Years Close and Secure Sleeper, Colors May Vary.
